Horcasitas

We have a 1780 and a 1782 debit/credit accounting for the enlisted men of the company from the Collections of the Manuscript Division, Library of Congress, taken from the Archivo General de Indias, Guadalajara Legajo 284, letter No. 884, pages 176-179. This Presidio was directly and heavily involved in the Yuma settlement and in the campaigns after the Yuma Massacre. One Corporal and five Soldados (Leather Jacket Soldiers) and six Tropa Ligera (Light Troopers) listed in 1780 were not listed in 1782, and at least two of these are known to have been killed at Yuma. In 1782, one Leather Jacket Soldier had been promoted to replace the Corporal. There were 12 new persons in 1782, all in the Tropa Ligera (Light Troopers) at the end of the roster in rank. These have been rearranged alphabetically, with additional information shown when it is known.
