Mother’s Day-Sunday, May 12
National Peace Officer Memorial Day-Wednesday, May 15: This tribute to American law enforcement officers is part of the historic crime bill that President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1994. At the request of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Public Law 103-322 designates Peace Officers Memorial Day as one of only two days each year during which government agencies, businesses and residents are to fly their U.S. flags at half-staff.

Armed Forces Day – Saturday, May 18:
The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will host the Field of Honor in conjunction with Armed Forces Day. At this event there will be 1776 US Flags flown to honor all men and women in our military. If you would like to honor a military person at this event, you can do so by purchasing a Flag ($45 per honoree) and a ribbon will be placed on your flag with the honoree you are dedicating it to. This event is being held at Castaways Park, Dover Dr. and 16th Street, Newport Beach. Dedication ceremonies start at noon on Saturday, May 19th.
Memorial Day – Monday, May 27: Although the actual Memorial Day is on Tuesday, May 30th, Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of the month.
Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country and to remind people of the ultimate sacrifice that our military members have made so that we may enjoy our freedom.
The National Moment of Remembrance, established by Congress, asks Americans, wherever they are at 3 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day, to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of one minute to honor those who died in service to the United States.
Flag Day – Friday, June 14: This day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which occurred on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the second Continental Congress. Please remember to fly your American flag on this day.
U.S. Army Birthday – Friday, June 14: The U.S. Army was founded on 14 June 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized enlistment of riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year.
